A quantum of disappointment

I went to see the new James Bond movie "Quantum Of Solace" the other day. Expectations were sky high, especially after it was revealed that this would be a direct sequel to "Casino Royale", which jump started a slowly stalling franchise and was a fantastic action movie by any standard . Alas, one should have known that, as is usually the case with sequels, it would not live up to the hype. The shaky camera syndrome has now also infested the Bond franchise, and, as some bloke on the internet pointed out, it's often hard to tell who is beating the **** out of who. Also, what was up with that shot of that waitresses crotch near the end of the movie? It has fueled a lot of speculation as to whether she was wearing panties or not, but I guess Blue Ray DVD's and High Def TV's will solve that mystery pretty soon.
Daniel Craig is still as bad as(s) can be and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the next installment, this time around maybe with a better song, a better villain and more of the typical Bond flair.

Congratulations

I congratulate President-elect Obama on a stunning victory last night. I was up until about 4 last night, waiting for Virginia and Florida to be projected, but fell asleep before that, with my laptop still streaming ABC's live coverage of the election. When I woke up around 6 and glanced sleepily at the screen, it showed people crying as they listened to Obama's victory speech. His theme of hope, change and reconciliation was pretty much the same as it had always been, but suddenly it seemed to be carrying added gravitas, suddenly it actually seemed doable. I realize that as President, Obama can only disappoint. He would have to be able to turn water into wine in order to not disappoint, and even then only because people would be too drunk to care.
In his hands he now holds the trust and hope of millions of people around the world. It's a tremendous burden and responsibility and one can only wish him the best of luck. Now let the testing of this guy's mettle begin. Russia, you go first. Oh, you already have? My mistake...

Gobama

Tonight‘s the night. The epic battle „Obama vs. Joe the Plumber“ is finally coming to an end and I can get my life back. I have endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States, something which would have drawn a little more public attention, had Colin Powell, the bastard, not stolen my thunder.
Either way, things are not looking bad so far. The good people of Dixville Notch, NH, have for the first time in more than 40 years voted overwhelmingly for a blue candidate.
It‘s a shame though that Obama‘s grandmother didn‘t get to vote for her grandson.

Pottery

I've been riding the Hogwarts Express to school lately. Like so many prepubescent kids before me I find myself increasingly at odds with the real world, longing for a magic wand to clean my dishes at a mere tap and a shiny Nimbus 2000 to avoid crammed muggle subways. Alas, I'm bound by gravity and tortured by what is arguably the worst and most unreliable public transportation system in the country. There is a flipside to this, though - it gives me more time to read while waiting for the train to arrive at platform 9 3/4.

Ask your doctor if Gemerica is right for you.

Water is bubbling in the kettle behind me, suspicious squeaky sounds are coming from the room next door and I'm typing up my blogs (blog like one gives (a) shit?) first post.
Unwanted and unwarranted as it may be, these are my five cents to the state of the union, the world and my little room in Tannenbusch, Bonn, Germany.
You have been warned.
